Résumé :

This study aims at analyzing Geography students’ English language learning needs at AOU in order to help them fulfil academic and professional requirements. The main question we sought to answer is the following: what are the English learning needs of Geography students at AOU to fulfil their academic and professional tasks? As such, a questionnaire and a documentary research were used as data collection instruments over 3 teachers and 220 learners within a mixed method framework. Results showed that there is a mismatch between students’ English learning needs expressed and the proposed syllabuses. It is also displayed that the content of the syllabuses is only based on Geographical terminologies, reading comprehension, translations and grammar. There are no workbooks which take into account learners’ real needs. The syllabuses do not contain communicative activities and all the four principal language skills. As a remedial, some didactic and pedagogical techniques are offered to help students fulfil their professional and academic requirements.
