Résumé

Despite the significant role of the Commonwealth in advancing democracy in Ghana through election observation, its contribution has been overlooked in the existing literature. The primary goal of this article is to highlight the role of the organisation in Ghana’s record performance in organising free, fair, and peaceful elections. To achieve this, the article will be guided by the following research objectives: First, to discuss the role of the Commonwealth in ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections in Ghana. Second, to examine the shortcomings of the Commonwealth in election observation in Ghana. Third, to propose solutions to improve the Commonwealth election observation in Ghana. The article concludes that the Commonwealth has played a crucial role in Ghana’s record performance in organising peaceful elections.
